Aviary performances at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30!

This annual event is hosted by the Ann Arbor District Library with food trucks, face painting, yard games, and entertainment by US! It’s part their Summer Game, which is a city-wide, points-based scavenger hunt and reading challenge, and the event is an opportunity for participants to collect a ton of points in one family-friendly and fun filled day.

The event is held in the Veterans Memorial Park Ballfields, which are accessible from Maple Rd and Dexter Rd. There is overflow parking available in the Maple Village Shopping Center.

We’ve got 19 performers ready to knock your socks off and the best part is it’s FREE!

Rehearsal will be held outdoors behind the studio. In the event of inclement weather, rehearsal will be moved to Sunday, 6/28 at 12:00 PM.

Wanna dance? Let's try it on the Dance Trap! In this workshop you will learn choreography that can transfer on to your Lyra hoop or sling. We will be playing with different heights, mounts, and types of spinning techniques. 

PREREQ:

• 18+

• Trapeze, Lyra, or Sling experience

• Comfortable spinning

• Able to straddle or pike mount comfortably

• Flares are helpful but not required

Would you like to be part of the show? We’re looking for cast and crew members for this yearly family-friendly event is hosted by the Ann Arbor District Library. Auditionees should prepare a happy/silly/sunshiny act for all ages to enjoy. Kid media and cultural identity/heritage themed acts strongly encouraged! Dynamic acts preferred.

Join us for a special Play Flight on the portal aerial rig! Take your practice outside, check out the different feel and flex of the rig, and soak up the sunshine. We’ll be behind the studio, facing the railroad tracks. Weather permitting.

Regular Play Flight will still be available inside the studio.

Always wanted to learn how to juggle? Join us for this introductory workshop with Anny. Work at your own pace to explore a few basic juggling patterns and build a solid foundation to practice at home!

Some juggling props will be provided but please feel free to bring something to juggle!
Balled up socks and little stuffed animals work great!
Small bean bags or juggling props are welcome.

Are You Ready to Step into the Spotlight?

Audition to perform in Aviary Illuminated on Sunday, March 1, at 11:30 AM! To sign up, you must complete an audition form and upload your music before Sunday, February 22.

Casting Call

• Up to 25 performers

  • Up to 5 each: trapeze, silks, sling, other

  • Current list of auditionees, music, and act concepts HERE

• Acts must be inspiring/joyous/uplifting

  • Nature and spring themed routines encouraged!

  • This is a glow show - neon, light up, or light reactive costumes and props are strongly encouraged!

• Plan your approach to the apparatus. Your performance begins the moment the audience can see you. Even if the music hasn’t started, your entrance should be intentional and choreographed.

In this intermediate-level aerial silks workshop, we will focus on embodying artistry and fluidity in our transitional movement quality to level-up our basic climbs, transforming them into mesmerizing methods of ascending the silks and captivating sequences. Every moment is an opportunity to DANCE in the air, even when climbing in between tricks! Focus will be in exploring potential space and finding ease in our movement. Our ground warm up aims to raise energy and ignite our creative life force. We'll address the age-old question, "what do I do with my arms?!"

Ability to invert in the air NOT REQUIRED

• Feel comfortable in a dead hang with straight arms and a bent-arm hang.

• Proficiency with basic climbs (French, Russian); comfortability sitting in a squat from a Russian climb.

• Comfortability in a hip key, any method. 

• Solid foot lock skills.
